Diary of a Theatre Manager – Episode 15

BY HARRISON FULLER

In with the new, with festivals, comedy and jazz

The theatre is looking a little sad this week. Gone is the glitter of the panto set, the bright colourful set pieces and, of course, the elephant. The run came to an end on Sunday, but plans are afoot for panto 2018. Cinderella has already been announced and tickets to the ball will be on sale very soon!

If you are feeling the January blues and are indeed some entertainment, we have music and comedy galore. Supporting local musicians we have a free music festival on 13th January with Doc Mason. Starting at 2.00pm there will music throughout the afternoon and the evening.

For a different style of music, we have Peterborough Jazz Club moving in from 11th February. Their first event will be the music of Dudley Moore. The Jazz Club will be with us each month, bringing in acts of international repute.

For comedy fans we have the return of Funhouse Comedy on 25th January with a three-comedians-for-the-price-of-one event! Bargain. Also, we have the brilliant Trumpageddon, a satire show coming to The Broadway Suite on 1st February. This show was a hit at the Edinburgh Fringe and is now coming to Peterborough as part of its UK tour.

In Blood Brothers news, I am delighted that we have half a dozen schools coming along to the performances so far, and I hope that others will be able to take the opportunity to see the show here in Peterborough and supplement the education of the students. We will have some other shows coming up in the year that feed into studies, and I hope we will be able to work with the schools to deliver a programme that will be beneficial.

We have some exciting news here at The Broadway Towers. We have a new member staff. Wendy has joined us to look after events, weddings and corporate bookings. She has already booked in a Christmas party for December, and has other things bubbling away. (Cue sales pitch:) If you would like to consider The Broadway or The Broadway Suite for your next business meeting, party or event, please contact Wendy via wendybroadway1@gmail.com

Next week I am away on annual leave ,so there will be no diary (aww), it’s sadder than that (stuck in panto mode). On my return I will bring you lots more exciting news and developments.

Until next time…
